Sage Seeds is owned and operated by the Bakshi family — Sanjay, his wife, and their daughter Sejal, whom we call Sage. We’ve lived in Bellerose for decades. The shop is named for her.
Sanjay spent fifteen years working in legal cannabis retail in Massachusetts and Vermont before NY opened applications. When we applied for a CAURD retail license, we wrote one rule on the application: treat the customer like a guest in our home.
In 2024 New York granted us its fourth adult-use retail license, OCM-RETL-24-000004. We opened in 2025 at 248-15 Union Turnpike. Sanjay’s behind the counter most days. Sejal splits her week between her healthcare career and the shop.
We carry roughly a third of what high-volume Manhattan dispensaries stock. We test everything. We lead with NY-grown brands. Our budtenders are paid hourly with no commission — their job is to find you the right product, not the biggest cart.

Why Sage Seeds exists
Our founder grew up around the Queens-Nassau line and watched the legal cannabis industry take shape from the outside. After her daughter was born, the project of opening Sage Seeds became more than a business plan. It became a stake in the kind of dispensary she wanted her own neighbors and her own family to have access to: clean, well-lit, welcoming, calm, with a menu curated by people who actually know cannabis instead of upsell scripts.
Bellerose was the obvious location. The neighborhood deserved a real dispensary instead of the unlicensed shops that had been operating along Hempstead Turnpike and Jericho Turnpike for years. And because Nassau County opted out of dispensary retail, building here meant we could legally serve a much wider community: the entire western Nassau border, the LIRR commuter ring, the UBS Arena event crowd, and the Long Island Jewish hospital workforce.
What we believe about cannabis
We believe natural plant medicine and modern wellness can sit on the same shelf without contradiction. We believe a 5 mg gummy is not the same product as a 100 mg one and that customers deserve to be told the difference clearly. We believe a budtender's job is to listen, not to push. We believe a "premium" claim is meaningless unless the product has been lab-tested and the buyer can read the certificate of analysis.
Most of all we believe in the people who shop with us. Many are first-time legal cannabis customers. Some used to shop at unlicensed stores and are still learning what a real lab-tested experience feels like. Others are seasoned connoisseurs who want to talk live rosin terpene profiles for ten minutes. All of them get the same time and attention.

Every product on the Sage Seeds shelf passes through a buyer who has tasted, vetted, or personally evaluated it. Our rotation favors New York cultivators and processors, with a particular respect for small-batch growers upstate. The current categories include:

Same-day cannabis delivery runs out of the Bellerose dispatch center and reaches Queens (Bellerose, Queens Village, Bayside, Fresh Meadows, Jamaica, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Cambria Heights, Hollis, Douglaston, Little Neck, and surrounding ZIPs), Nassau (Garden City, Mineola, Hempstead, New Hyde Park, Great Neck), and parts of Suffolk (Melville, Huntington, Dix Hills). How we think about community
Sage Seeds is a neighborhood-anchored business. We host in-store brand events with the cultivators and processors we carry. We support local first responders, restaurant industry workers, and cultural events when they ask. We pay attention to local feedback because most of it comes from people we will see again next week.
We are also an educational resource. Compliance, lab testing, and your safety
Every product Sage Seeds sells is tracked from the licensed cultivator through the licensed processor to our shelf, with batch-level lab testing for potency, residual solvents, pesticides, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and microbials. The testing is required by NYS OCM and is the single most important reason to buy from a licensed dispensary instead of an unlicensed shop. We can pull up the certificate of analysis for any product on request.
