What you need to bring
A government-issued ID showing you are 21 or older. NY driver's license, passport, state ID, military ID, or any other government-issued photo ID. We will check it at the door and again at the register. No exceptions, no "I forgot it."
A way to pay. Legal NY dispensaries cannot take credit cards because of federal banking rules. Sage Seeds accepts Aeropay (digital ACH from your phone), ACH transfer, or exact cash. There is also an ATM on site if you need cash.
That is the full requirement. You do not need any documentation about cannabis use, any prescription, any referral, or anything else. The legal adult-use system in NY is open to any 21+ adult with valid ID.
What happens when you walk in
A door host or a budtender greets you and checks your ID. You walk into the retail floor. Product is displayed by category (flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, tinctures, topicals, CBD, accessories). Prices are listed. A budtender asks how they can help. You can browse on your own or ask for guidance.
If you are unsure what to buy, tell the budtender what you are looking for, not what you want to buy. "I want to relax in the evening without falling asleep" is more useful than "I want indica flower." We work backward from your goal to the product.
You pay at the register. The budtender bags your order in a sealed, exit-bag-compliant package per NYS rules. You leave. Total visit usually takes 5 to 15 minutes for a first-time customer.
How much you can buy in one transaction
New York adult-use limits per transaction:
- 3 ounces of flower, OR
- 24 grams of concentrate
The 24 grams is the THC equivalent across all concentrate categories (vapes, edibles, tinctures, topicals all count). For most first-time customers, this is more than enough.
What to start with as a first-time customer
For most first-time adult customers, we recommend starting with one of:
- A single pre-roll of a balanced hybrid like Wedding Cake, Blue Dream, or Runtz. Easy to dose, easy to share.
- A 2.5 mg low-dose gummy from the low-dose edible menu. Take one, wait 90 minutes before considering more.
- A 5 mg cannabis beverage from the beverages menu. Fast onset, social, controllable.
What we do not recommend for a first visit: high-potency live resin disposables, high-THC edibles (10 mg+), or large flower purchases.
What to expect from your first session
If you are a first-time cannabis user, expect onset times to be longer and effects to be stronger than you expect. Edibles take 60 to 90 minutes to peak, not 15. Vapes hit faster (5 to 15 minutes). The peak is in the first 30 to 60 minutes. Most adults feel back to baseline within 4 to 6 hours, longer for edibles.
Set up your environment in advance. Have water, food, a comfortable place to sit, and ideally another adult with you for your first session. Do not drive. Do not make important decisions. Have something light to do (a familiar movie, music, a walk if outdoors).
What if it is too much
For most adults at the doses we recommend above, "too much" is unlikely. If you do feel uncomfortably high, the experience is temporary. Drink water, find a quiet space, breathe slowly, remember the effect will pass within a few hours. CBD can sometimes soften the edge.
