The Saturday-cleaning-marathon shopper. They are looking for the cannabis equivalent of a clean cup of coffee, not a sedative, and they want it to last for a few hours of moving around. The good news is that the modern New York cannabis menu is actually well-stocked for this. The bad news is that the dose math is steeper than for any other effect category, because the line between "energetic" and "racing-heart" is thin.
What "energy" looks like with cannabis
For most adult shoppers, energy means a clear-headed, mood-lifted, motivated state with mild physical buoyancy. The cannabinoid that gets you there is THC at low to moderate dose. The terpene that does most of the work is terpinolene, found in classic sativas like Jack Herer and Durban Poison. Limonene plays a supporting role for mood lift. The wrong combination, like high-dose flower with myrcene-heavy terpenes, will produce the opposite of energy.

Where energy goes wrong
Overshooting the dose. A 10 mg sativa edible is not "more energy than 5 mg." It is "5 mg of energy plus a side of anxiety." Start low.
Picking high-THC distillate vapes. These often strip the very terpenes that produce the energetic feeling, leaving you with the THC effect without the mood lift. Live resin or live rosin retains more of the spectrum.
Using sativa for sleep, then doing the opposite the next day. Many of the customers who tell us "sativa makes me anxious" are using the same brand at the same dose right before bed, which is a setting problem more than a strain problem.
Time-of-day notes
Morning to early afternoon is the sweet spot for energy cannabis. After 4 p.m., even a clean sativa can leave the body feeling alert at 11 p.m. Plan accordingly.
