Pre-roll singles
A single pre-roll is one joint, typically 0.5 g, 0.7 g, or 1 g of flower. Sold individually. Best for trying a strain you have not used before, for a one-session evening, or for sharing with one or two adults.
The brands that dominate the New York pre-roll single shelf vary by week, but MFNY, Off-Hours, Dank by Definition, and rotating small-batch upstate growers are common.
Pre-roll multi-packs
Multi-packs contain multiple smaller pre-rolls, typically 5-packs of 0.35 g or 0.5 g rolls. Cost-effective per gram compared to singles. Best for adults who use cannabis regularly and prefer flower over vape or edibles. Popular in the multi-pack category: Botanist, Grassroots.
Infused pre-rolls
An infused pre-roll is flower wrapped around or kief-coated with a cannabis concentrate (live resin, hash, or distillate). The result is a pre-roll with significantly higher potency than flower alone. NY infused pre-rolls typically range 30% to 45% total cannabinoids by weight.
Infused pre-rolls hit harder, faster, and longer than standard pre-rolls. They are not recommended for first-time customers. Adults with established tolerance often appreciate the convenience of one-and-done dosing.

How to choose a pre-roll
Three questions:
- What effect are you after? See effects index. Sleep wants indica-leaning, energy wants sativa-leaning, etc.
- How experienced are you? First-time or infrequent: standard pre-roll, half at a time. Regular user: full pre-roll or infused if you know your tolerance.
- Are you sharing? Multi-pack of smaller rolls is better for groups; one full single per person can be too much.
Pre-roll storage and freshness
Pre-rolls stay fresh for several months in proper storage (sealed container, cool, dark, with humidity around 58% to 62%). The cannabis inside slowly loses terpenes over time, which dulls flavor and effect character. If you bought a 5-pack and only smoked one, store the rest in the original sealed packaging or in a small jar with a Boveda 62 pack. See how to store cannabis.
What to avoid
A pre-roll that crackles loudly or burns unevenly often signals lower-quality flower or curing issues. A pre-roll that is harsh on the throat may have been made from over-dried material. Most NY-licensed pre-rolls from established cultivators are well-made, but quality varies. Ask the budtender which brand has been performing best recently.
